There are four new forest fires in the northeast region, according to the Ontario Forest Fire Map.

There are also two ongoing active fires in Wawa and Kirkland Lake regions.

Two of the new fires are in the Sudbury area.

According to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, Sudbury 21 is two hectares in size and not under control. It is located along Lake Panache. Sudbury 22 along the French River is about 1.7 hectares in size and listed as being held.

The other new fires are Wawa 4, which is four hectares and not under control. A fire near Hearst is listed as being under control at less than a hectare in size.

For the ongoing active fires, Kirkland Lake 1, which started May 21, near Belle Vallée is being observed at 15.8 hectares. Wawa 3 north of Manitouwadge is under contral at half a hectare. That fire started June 18.

A small fire, Timmins 4, southwest of Kenogaming Lake that started June 18 is now listed as being out. It was .2 hectares in size.

Chapleau 1 that was west of Mississagi River Provincial Park is also now out.

Across the region, the MNRF says the fire hazard is generally high, with some areas in the central and southern areas showing an extreme hazard.
