There are seven forest fires in the northeast region

No new forest fires were found yesterday.

According to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, there are still seven active fires in the northeast.

The active fires listed on the Ontario Forest Fire Map are:

• North Bay 13 - Is under half a hectare and under control. It's located near Cobalt between Peterson Lake and Crosswise Lake.

• Sudbury 25 and 26 are close in proximited and located about four kilometres east of Garson-Coniston road. Both are under half a hectare and listed as being held.

• Sudbury 24 - It's 2.5 hectares in size and being held. It's located east of Big Lynx Lake.

• Sudbury 23 - It's one hectare under control. It's located about one kilometre south of route 637.

• Wawa 4 - It's east of Dreany Lake and under control at 7.4 hectares.

• Kirkland Lake 1 - It's being observed at 15.8 hectares and is about two kilometres north of Belle Vallée.

The number of fires in Ontario this year is up compared to 2019.

This year there have been 157 forest fires in the province, compared to 141 in 2019. The 10-year average is 288.
