Andre Riopel, Jim Miller and others from the Sault Cycling Club were dishing dirt last week around the former MTO site near Old Garden River Road.

The volunteers filled in hollows, creating a crucial missing link in the Sault's trail system, allowing bikes, pedestrians and possibly even wheelchairs to traverse the property.

Riopel has been lobbying for the trail for a decade.

He credits City staff for not only allowing volunteers to undertake the work but also supplying a couple of truckloads of aggregate material and added labour to remove fence posts that were blocking the way.

Riopel will be at City Council tonight to promote the Great Sault Ste. Marie Bicycle Treasure Hunt, the Sault's largest cycling event of the year.
