Helping a friend or loved one deal with a distressing medical diagnosis is never easy.

But one loyal SooToday reader and her significant other found a way to make one friend's day very bright in the face of adversity, and they tell us Galaxy Cinemas was there to help.

The couple in question wishes to remain anonymous in order to protect the identity of their ill friend who does not want to be perceived by the public as the 'sick kid'.

"When we found out that our friend had lymphoma cancer, we were devastated," our read wrote to us.

"My boyfriend grew up with him, and they have been best friends for 25 years," she continued. "He felt helpless. What do you do for your best friend in this situation? Nothing. There is literally nothing that you can do to help. But what you CAN do is make life seem a little better in such a dark time."

She said their friend is the biggest Star Wars fan they know.

Unfortunately, his weakened immune system prevented him from attending a public screening of the latest franchise instalment for fear of contracting a cold or flu.

"My boyfriend and I approached Galaxy Theatres, hoping for a Christmas gift for our buddy," our reader said. "Much to my surprise, the ladies at Galaxy arranged for a private screening!"

On January 10, before the theatre opened to the public, two life-long buddies sat in an empty Galaxy Cinemas theatre to enjoy their own private screening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

"What an awesome day. Thank you, Galaxy Cinemas!" our reader said. "May the force be with you!"
