SAULT AREA HOSPITAL FOUNDATION

************************* Sault Area Hospital Foundation - helped along by CN

The Sault Area Hospital Foundation is pleased to announce that CN has donated $15,000 to purchase an anesthetic gas monitor which is crucial for the hospital’s medical professionals to administer a general anesthetic.

Currently Sault Area Hospital has nine anesthetic gas monitors that require replacement as an emergency requisition.

These monitors are used in maternal child, ophthalmology, and the operating suites.

These monitors also measure the five most commonly used anesthetic gases when operating on a patient.

These also include measuring nitrous oxide (N2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2).

"Anesthesia gas monitoring is a standard of care in Canada and being able to detect the presence of CO2 gas in the air that a patient exhales confirms that the breathing tube is correctly placed in the lungs, which was a 20th century breakthrough in technology that made general anesthetics much safer worldwide," said Dr. Heather O'Brien, MD med FRCP chief, Department of Anesthesia at SAH.

CN knows there is a clear link between safe and health living and strong community spirit.

They recognize their citizenship responsibility to the communities in which they operate - not only in their commitment to safety and the environment, but also in making our community a better place to live and work.
