The Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board’s (HSCDSB) STEAM Lab — located at Holy Angels Learning Centre — just received a $250,000 boost thanks to a donation from Tenaris.

This funding will be directed towards equipment, materials and infrastructure updates. These include painting the building's exterior, installing a ramp to enhance accessibility, and hiring an additional support staff for a full school year.

“We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the significant support we have received from Tenaris,” said the board's outgoing director of education, Danny Viotto, in a news release issued today. “This substantial donation will not only enable us to continue offering our students dynamic, science-related experiences but also significantly enhance their real-world connection as it pertains to STEAM. We are so fortunate to have such a remarkable community partner to help us build upon this vision.”

Lorenzo DiCerbo, the STEAM Lab's lead teacher, said the funds will help "provide 21st-century learning opportunities for our students."

To ensure that students continue to participate in environments that foster learning in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics, Tenaris has made a $250,000 investment toward the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board’s (HSCDSB) STEAM Lab.

The STEAM Lab, housed at the Holy Angels Learning Centre, is a unique space that offers students of different grade levels the opportunity to explore career options in STEAM education. It provides hands-on experiences, where students can explore the interconnections between science and technology.

“We are advocates of education and in particular, in building awareness and exposure to learnings that integrate the STEM areas to strengthen critical thinking and encourage innovation and creativity,” said Martín Castro, Tenaris President in Canada.  “We share this vision with the Catholic School Board’s STEAM Lab as initiatives such as this provide an early introduction into the opportunities sciences and technologies can offer young learners.”

The investment from Tenaris will be directed towards equipment, materials and infrastructure updates. These include painting the building's exterior, installing a ramp to enhance accessibility, and hiring an additional support staff for a full school year.

“We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the significant support we have received from Tenaris,” said HSCDSB Director of Education, Danny Viotto. “This substantial donation will not only enable us to continue offering our students dynamic, science-related experiences but also significantly enhance their real-world connection as it pertains to STEAM. We are so fortunate to have such a remarkable community partner to help us build upon this vision.”

“These funds will allow us to invest in newer technologies and provide 21st-century learning opportunities for our students and ensure we have additional staff support for the lab,” said STEAM Lead Teacher, Lorenzo DiCerbo. “Currently, we see roughly 1,400 to 1,500 students throughout the school year, and with the investment from Tenaris, we can expand the offers and visits for our students.”

The STEAM Lab offers four learning spaces: a coding, robotics, and 3D design/printing lab; an environmental space with Catholic teachings; an Indigenous space focusing on the arts; and an outdoor space for team-based learning activities.
