Contractors are still working on-site at the Sault's newest secondary school, says Algoma District School Board Superintendent of Business Joe Santa Maria.
At Tuesday night's school board meeting, he said contractors are putting on finishing touches to Superior Heights Collegiate and Vocational School.
They're done major tasks and the school is continuing toward full functionality, which is expected in mid-November, said Santa Maria.
A few weeks ago, however, things were a little up in the air.
Superior Heights was barely ready for occupancy on time.
The school was granted a ‘temporary occupancy’ for its orientation of Grade 7, 8 and 9 students that was held on August 30.
Full occupancy wasn’t granted until Labour Day Monday.
Students started class in the new school the day after full occupancy was granted.
Many of the workers still on-site are generally working from 4 p.m. to midnight to put finishing touches on the school.
“The school is operational and students are in school and enjoying the programming,” said Santa Maria. “There are a few minor things that we’re working through with the building contractor.”
Santa Maria said one area still being completed is the shops area.
“It’s nothing specific that stops the school from being operational,” Santa Maria said. “The shops areas are something we’re working on currently and getting them right with the shops teachers.”
For F.H. Clergue, the board expects contractors to be done by Thanksgiving weekend, again with just minor work needing to be completed now.
Other upgrades completed locally included ventilation and air-quality upgrades at White Pines Collegiate and Vocational School, some exterior foundation improvements at Korah Collegiate and Vocational School and some accessibility increases at Central Algoma Secondary School.
