Sunscreen fail. Planking win? (6 photos)

Frosh Week was in full force today at Algoma University as students, faculty, friends and supporters gathered on the school's front lawn to break the Guinness World Record for the most people applying sunscreen simultaneously.

Frosh Week was in full force today at Algoma University as students, faculty, friends and supporters gathered on the school's front lawn to break the Guinness World Record for the most people applying sunscreen simultaneously.

According to the official Guinness World Record website, the current record of 675 people applying sunscreen simultaneously was set on June 25, 2011 in Belgium.

Despite its best efforts and mass appeals for support, Algoma U came up a tad short as the event drew only 335 participants.

Although it wasn't a world record, Frosh Week Coordinator Robert Totime was happy to tell SooToday.com that it is a Sault Ste. Marie record, and event coordinators issued a challenge to all area organizations to beat it.

"I came up with the idea because the theme for this Frost Week is 'Leave Your Mark' so setting a World Record is a good way to do that," Totime told us. "We also wanted to give back to the community, so we made it a fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society."

There was another World Record attempt today at Algoma U - the most number of people planking simultaneously.

After a quick search on the Guinness World Record website, SooToday.com discovered that no record for planking has been recorded.

A total of 93 plankers planted themselves face down on the Algoma U lawn for one minute.

Frosh Week organizers are eager to submit the record to Guinness for approval.
