Local fire department received a $28K grant from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada, which supports first responders across Canada

Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services was able to buy special gloves and particulate blocking hoods with a grant received from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada.

“We are grateful to the foundation and our local Firehouse Subs in Sault Ste. Marie for awarding us this grant,” said Chief Peter Johnson in a news release. “The new firefighting gloves and particulate blocking hoods will fulfill a critical need within our department and allow our first responders to better help the people of Sault Ste. Marie during emergency situations.”

The $28,476 received in Sault Ste. Marie is part of money the foundation has provided to public safety organizations across Canada.

The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada has awarded 351 grants to public safety organizations since 2015. This grant is one of 19 awarded to public safety organizations during the most recent grant cycle.

The grants will provide critical lifesaving equipment valued at more than $530,000 throughout the country, the news release says.
