The City of Sault Ste. Marie has announced that both the Art Jennings Speed Skating Oval at the John Rhodes Arena and the Clergue Park Skating Trail are now open.

A news release issued today by the City of Sault Ste. Marie states that these outdoor facilities will remain open weather permitting.

The city's outdoor boarded rinks are closed until further notice. These include Anna McCrea, Merrifield and Esposito.

The following COVID-19 health and safety protocols are in place at city-operated skating facilities:
    •    Attendees must conduct a self-assessment for COVID-19 symptoms before attending an outdoor ice surface/rink or skating trail.
    •    At the outdoor ice surface/rink or trail, attendees must maintain a two metre (six feet) distance from those they do not live with and must wear a mask or a face covering outdoors when physical distancing cannot be maintained.
    •    Visual / textural markers spaced two metres (six feet) apart will encourage physical distancing and guide users throughout the space
    •    Benches will be located outdoors, adjacent to ice rink areas to provide attendees options to put on and remove skates. Change room areas will be temporarily closed in compliance with the Province-wide shut down. Following the shut-down, indoor locations to put on skates will be limited and users will be required to wear face masks and adhere to social distancing protocols including signing in for contact tracing purposes.
    •    Security Staff will supervise and control usage of the outdoor skating rink locations and trail during operating hours

These outdoor facilities will operate under holiday hours, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. from Dec. 30 through Jan. 4.
