Staff Sergeant David O'Dell (shown) was one of nine recipients of exemplary service awards today from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

O'Dell was honoured for his efforts in fighting organized crime and his role in Project Retire, considered the most significant crackdown on outlaw motorcycle clubs ever undertaken in Ontario.

A three-year initiative of the Provincial BEU (Biker Enforcement Unit), Project Retire culminated in the arrest last September of 65 per cent of the Outlaws Motorcycle Club membership, virtually shutting down the club in Sault Ste. Marie.

O'Dell received a separate citation today recognizing his involvement in implementing the Sault Police Service's new computer-aided dispatch system and optic records management system.
