If you’ve been looking for a way to help those in our community, St. Vincent Place says it has the perfect opportunity.

The charitable organization is currently seeking new teams of volunteers to help in its soup kitchen for Wednesday dinners.

"If you’re not familiar with how our soup kitchen works, here’s a breakdown," St. Vincent Place said in a news release. "Each meal that is served in our soup kitchen is planned, purchased, prepared, and served by one of our volunteer teams. Each team takes its turn serving about every six to eight weeks (but this depends on the number of teams we have – the more teams there are, the less often each one serves – and the cost of each meal averages about $250. Meals are served take-out style."

Meals the current teams offer tend to be comfort food: pasta and meatballs, roasted pork loin, or meatloaf with bread, rice, or potatoes and vegetables are some of the more popular meals.

"Nothing fancy is needed," the organization said, "just a hearty meal to help fill the bellies of those in need."

Some of the teams are made up of business owners and employees, while others are church groups, or simply groups of friends, family, or neighbours.

"As long as you have at least five or six like-minded people, you can form a soup kitchen team! We make up the team schedule for a full year in advance, so we just ask that teams commit to one year of serving on the rotation."

St. Vincent Place added: "While we appreciate all who want to volunteer, please note that we’re unable to accept any new teams for Saturdays, as the roster is full."
