St. Vincent Place is launching a new program March 1, The Period Pantry, which will combat menstruation poverty by providing pads and tampons to those in need.

As many as 35 per cent of women in Ontario have experienced period poverty over the last few years, sometimes having to choose between menstrual products and other necessities like food, according to a release.

Although St. Vincent has provided these items as part of food bank packages, their availability was dependent upon whether  donations had been received.

With the Period Pantry, however, pads and tampons will always be available and will be accessible whether the client  receives a regular food bank package or not.

Additionally, while clients can receive a food bank package once every two months, The Period Pantry can be accessed every month. Clients simply have to come to the food bank with ID when it’s open (Wednesdays 4:30-7 p.m. and Saturdays 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.)

St. Vincent Place is holding a drive-thru hygiene campaign on Women’s Day, March 8. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m, just pull up to
our doors at 222 Albert St. E. and we’ll come to collect your donation of pads or tampons. You won’t even need to get out of your car.

If you have questions about The Period Pantry or would like to support this program, please email Sara or call 705-253-2770 ext. 202.
