With its new location not yet ready to be occupied, the Save Our Young Adults from Substance Abuse depot on Gore Street has closed due to 'unforeseen reasons.'
SOYA provides a number of services three days a week from its depot to assist people living with addiction and those experiencing poverty. Its next scheduled days to be open are Thursday and Saturday.
A representative from SOYA reached out to SooToday on Wednesday
"Due to unforeseen circumstances, SOYA will be closed until further notice," said Kelly Iaconis, speaking on behalf of the organization.
In a November story on SooToday, SOYA founder Connie Raynor-Elliott said a lack of proper heating and "unstable ownership at its current location" was leading to some anxiety as the organization awaits moving into its new location directly across the street in the near future.
The new building at 179 Gore is currently under renovation and will be available for occupancy at a future date that has yet to be announced.
A fundraising effort for the approximately $20,000 in renovations is currently underway.
