SooToday wants you — to host one of our new SPACES

We’re set to launch a new local social media site — are you in?

We have been busy since we first announced that we were planning to launch a revolutionary, community-powered new social network, SPACES

We have surveyed the community, built our social media platform, onboarded a new community manager and put in place a launch schedule.

Now, we’re ready to bring hosts into the SPACES fold.

At its core, SPACES is your community meeting place; it unites Sault residents to share their passion for hobbies and interests, respects diverse voices and ultimately strengthens the city we call home.

What sets SPACES apart from global social media networks is our spaces are moderated by local champions who are leading safe, civil and informative discussions about local topics of interest.

Sault residents who are experts in their respective fields or realm of interest will act as community stewards, guiding thoughtful dialogue on a wide range of topics.

Also known as hosts, these moderators will play an important role in the foundation of SPACES. This is where you come in.

We’re looking for local residents like you to take on the role of host; to act as community champions and help us build a social media site that’s safe, authentic and actually connected to our city.

If you are interested in becoming a host for SPACES, fill out the form: So You Want to be a SPACES Host. We’re excited to hear from you.

Need a bit more information? You got it!

Here are some great reasons to sign up as a SPACES host:

Help foster interconnectedness in our hometown: SPACES connects residents to their neighbourhood. As host, you’ll act as community liaison – piquing interest, educating the public on what matters in the Sault, highlighting what residents need to know, and more.

Support local businesses, help grow the economy: We’re bringing people and local initiatives together in SPACES. Is your cycling club looking to recruit fellow riders? Is your angling club eager to share their list of best rivers north of Sault Ste. Marie for fly fishing? You’ll have a leading role in shaping these dialogues — in SPACES.

Facilitate collaboration on local issues: How can we collectively make the Sault the best city to live, work and raise a family? As host, you’ll be steering collaboration on this — bringing ideas together to ensure Sault residents are healthy, supported and engaged.

Be among the first: Similar to managing a group on Facebook, host positions are voluntary. But unlike FB group admins, our hosts are frequently recognized and promoted on the No. 1 news site in Sault Ste. Marie. They also have an opportunity to be among the first to help build a local online community that is safe, welcoming, diverse, non-toxic, informative and all about the Sault!

Essentially, you’ll be at the helm, connecting with others who share the same interests. And you’ll be contributing to a safe, locally-minded community that works to build a stronger Sault Ste. Marie.

We’re launching an authentic, ambitious hyper-local social media network.

We would love to do this with you.

Submit your interest via the form, So You Want to be a SPACES Host, and our community manager will be in touch soon with next steps.

If you have any questions about the host role or SPACES in general, reach out to Lacy: [email protected]
