SooToday celebrates the importance of local news this World News Day

#Newsmatters and local, fact-based journalism matters now more than ever

World News Day helps to highlight the importance of independent, reliable journalism. It celebrates the stories, the people, the reporting and the professional news organizations who are responsible for creating and sharing news around the world.

Here at SooToday, we are dedicated to bringing you the stories that matter most in our community. We share your neighbours’ accomplishments, alert you to breaking news, and hold those in power accountable.

Reporting on the news is a 24/7 job. Our passionate local team works to provide Sault Ste. Marie with informative and engaging content, with news updated as it happens.

Over the past year, SooToday has been with you through devastating and tragic fires and nail-biting playoff runs. And we brought you stories that had happy endings too.

When Algoma Steel announced that it had a new owner and would emerge from years of creditor protection, our journalists were there to break the news, as we had been months before to report on the possible implications of the deal.

When a judge tossed out charges laid in the wake of the most significant drug bust in city history, we were there to tell you why.

As we commemorate World News Day and the important community role we hold as a platform for sharing news and information with you each day, we would also like to take a minute to thank you, the community, for demonstrating local news matters by continuing to visit SooToday.
