Some very cool planes stopped at Sault Airport this morning

The Snowbirds demonstration team — scheduled to soar over the Sault on Sept. 21 — made a pit stop in town Thursday morning on their way to a show on the east coast

The Snowbirds — the Canadian military's famous air demonstration team — will soar over Sault Ste. Marie next month as part of the annual Bushplane Days.

But this morning, team members made a brief pit stop in town on their way to a weekend event in Greenwood, Nova Scotia.

The Sault Ste. Marie Airport posted a photo of the iconic planes parked on the tarmac.

"Exciting Visit at YAM!" the post reads. "This morning, we had the incredible honor of welcoming the @RCAF_ARC Snowbirds to Sault Ste. Marie Airport as they continue on their airshow tour across Canada!"

"Seeing these iconic jets on our tarmac is a reminder of the thrilling show that awaits us on September 21, 2024, as we celebrate the centennial of the Canadian Air Force and the Ontario Provincial Air Service," it continues. "Don’t miss your chance to witness their breathtaking performance over the Sault Ste. Marie waterfront!"

The Snowbirds team includes two local pilots: Captain Patrice Powis-Clement, who grew up on St. Joseph Island and graduated from Sault College's Aviation Technology - Flight program, and Major Brent Handy, also a Sault College alum who serves as the Team Lead flying the prestigious position of Snowbird 1.
