As part of Social Services Awareness week, agencies from across the district gathered at the Station Mall on Wednesday with informational booths.
Dozens of social service agencies, like Ontario Works, Ontario Aboriginal Housing, and Employment Solutions, were happy to provide resources, tools, and advice to help bring recognition to the programs available in the area.
Among those in attendance was YesYouCan Employment, and their manager Trina Skagen says this week has been a great opportunity to re-engage with the community after the pandemic made it difficult to do so.
“It creates awareness of what’s out there for people,” she says. “The Sault is a very close-knit community, and we’re trying to collaboratively come together to help take care of one another. There’s something out there to help everybody. We’re very appreciative to be a part of it all.”
The district has come together to plan numerous events this week to help engage locals on the services available to them.
On Thursday, Social Services will be holding a downtown cleanup, picking up any debris leftover from the winter with the goal to beautify the downtown.
On Friday, they’re hosting PD Day Family Fun at the Bushplane from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The free event will be open to the public, featuring crafts, activities, games, giveaways, complimentary refreshments, and Lock City Dairy cold treats.
