The Wawa area could be facing up to 20 cm of snow and strong wind gusts on Thursday.

A snowfall warning was issued by Environment Canada on Wednesday afternoon with heavy snow in the forecast beginning on Thursday with an accumulation between 10 and 20 cm possible by Friday morning.

Wind gusts of 50 to 60 km/h and occasional blowing snow are also in the forecast.

"A developing low pressure system is expected to track east across Northern Ontario on Thursday," the warning said. "Snow is expected to begin Thursday morning and continue into Thursday evening. Southerly flow off Lake Superior may enhance the snowfall rates for some areas leading to locally higher total snowfall amounts."
