Chippewa County Sheriff Mike Bitnar said there were several other accidents in the county this afternoon, with injuries, due to the white-out conditions.

Original 2:47 p.m. story:

SAULT STE. MARIE, MICH. - Police officers and emergency crews are on the scene of a multi-vehicle crash on M-28 highway, one mile west of I-75.

It appears that 10 vehicles and one semi had extensive damages.

Six people have been transported to hospital with unknown injuries.

Blinding white-out conditions in this area contributed to the crash.

The road remains closed for the investigation, and police are asking to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.
