Six new wildfires confirmed in Northwest Region, says AFFES report

Fire hazard is moderate south of Sudbury and North Bay

There have been six new wildfires in the Northwest Region since the last report was filed by the Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services on Oct. 21.

At the time of this update, there are six active wildland fires in the area. Three are not under control and three are under control.

The fire hazard is low across the northern section of the region. For areas across the north shore of Lake Huron, south of Sudbury and North Bay, the fire hazard is moderate. There is an area of high fire hazard for the Tory Hill, Gooderham and Buckhorn Lake area.

The next report will be Oct. 28.

Northeast Region   

There were six new wildland fires confirmed in the Northeast Region since the last update late afternoon on Monday, October 21:

  • Sudbury 56 (SUD056) is a 2.9 hectare wildland fire that is under control and located approximately 1 kilometre west of the Beaver Lakes.
  • Sudbury 57 (SUD057) is a 5 hectare wildland fire that is not under control. This fire is located 500 metres north of Surveyor Lake.
  • Sudbury 58 (SUD058) was a 0.1 hectare wildland fire that is now out. This fire is located approximately 500 metres east of Owl Lake.
  • Chapleau 19 (CHA019) is a 1.0 hectare wildland fire that is not under control. This fire is located on the north shore of Harland Lake.
  • Timmins 20 (TIM020) is a 0.3 hectare fire located approximately 1 kilometre west of Duke Lake. This fire under control.
  • Bancroft 9 (BAN009) is 2.4 hectare fire located approximately 1.5 kilometres southeast of Canning Lake and is not under control.

Follow Ontario’s Outdoor Burning Regulations

This fall, Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services would like to remind the public to use caution when performing any outdoor burning. In order to dispose of yard waste and woody debris, we encourage you to use methods such as composting or using your local landfill. If you must burn, follow Ontario’s Outdoor Burning Regulations.

Fires are to be ignited no sooner than two hours before sunset and are to be extinguished no later than two hours after sunrise. Always have tools/water adequate to contain the fire at the site. Know the rules for safe outdoor burning; consult the full set of Outdoor Burning Regulations.
