SIU investigating McMeeken Street police scene

Three local police services attended residence July 30

Last week’s police scene on McMeeken Street is now the subject of an investigation by the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU).

The Sault Ste. Marie detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) confirmed the SIU investigation with SooToday Friday.

Members of Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, Ontario Provincial Police and Batchewana First Nation Police Service attended a residence on McMeeken Street July 30.

It’s unclear which police services are being investigated.

According to its website, the SIU is an independent civilian law enforcement agency that conducts criminal investigations into matters involving police and civilians that have resulted in serious injury, death or allegations of sexual assault.

SooToday has reached out twice to SIU in the past week. So far, SIU has not responded to our requests for information.
