SooToday received the above photos and the following note from concerned citizen Craig Turcotte, who would like local shopping cart chuckers to think before they fill our creeks and streams with potentially harmful debris:

My daughter and I go for walks by the creek (behind Tim Hortons on Farwell and Second Line).
Today we noticed shopping carts in the creek. Then I noticed a large turtle. It looked like it might be caught under one of the two shopping carts.
So I raced down and called my partner. She and I removed the shopping cart and retrieved the turtle to make sure it was okay.
I have encountered a snapping turtle before so I was very cautious. It seemed alright. We took some pictures and released it back into the creek. After we removed the shopping carts.
The one picture shows a loonie on the turtle's shell to show the size of it.
It is very concerning that people will throw litter, junk and shopping carts into the creek. I am hoping that by posting this people become aware of the damage they can cause by doing so.
Once again another encounter with one of nature's amazing creatures.
