The Freedom Sisters of Sault Ste. Marie have announced the return of the annual Shine the Light on Woman Abuse Campaign and contest.

The campaign comes as part of Woman Abuse Awareness/Prevention month in Ontario, which is held in November.

The Shine the Light campaign was started by the London Abused Women’s Centre in 2010 and looks to raise awareness of violence against women by turning communities purple for the month of November.

"We are asking our community to help us reach our goal and colour the town purple this month," says a release from Freedom Sisters.

"Replace your porch bulbs, put out some purple string lights, paint a purple bulb on your window, make purple cupcakes, or any other creative way you choose to show your community that you stand behind survivors of abuse and domestic violence. After you’ve completed your purple decor."
