Local MP Terry Sheehan released the following statement in response to the recent announcement regarding Justin Trudeau resigning:

I would like to thank Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for his years of service and dedication to Sault Ste. Marie, the Algoma District, and Canada.

When I was first elected in 2015, Algoma Steel was in bankruptcy and Tenaris had just a handful of employees. Our economy was at a low and our population was declining because of the previous Conservative government’s inaction. Thanks to record breaking federal investments and initiatives, our community has started to grow again for the first time in three decades.

The Prime Minister has announced his resignation as the leader of The Liberal Party of Canada, and will stay on as PM until a new leader is selected. This will create stability and continuity for Canada - both domestically and internationally.

I look forward to the upcoming Liberal leadership race as candidates bring forward their ideas and perspectives for the continued growth of our country. We have lots more to do. This is the time to stay united.
