National Quilting Day 2025, an annual event that started in 1991 to celebrate the art of quilting and the tradition of quilt-making, is on Saturday, March 15 and the local Stitches From the Heart Quilt Guild has planned a special activity that is open to everyone.

“We couldn’t be more excited!" Laura Coccimiglio, one of the event organizers said in a release.

"If you hadn’t noticed, quilting is a huge part of our lives here at Stitches From the Heart Quilt Guild. The fact that there’s a whole day dedicated to the love, skill, devotion, and creativity that goes into every quilt we make, has us ready to celebrate all things quilty.”

The event runs from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Bay Street Active Living (Seniors) Centre’s Main Hall at 619 Bay St.

The cost of the workshop is $20 for adults and $10 for students.

“This is a sew day for all to enjoy. Along with sewing together on a project of your choice, we will share tips and tricks to make quilting easier, will have some demonstrations and feature a Show and Share which is always a favourite,” Coccimiglio said.

The event will include prizes, coffee/tea and cake as part of our celebration.

The Stitches From the Heart Quilt Guild has been providing opportunities for quilters to share, learn and gather with other quilters for more than 30 years and has more than 110 members.

It meets the fourth Monday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Senior’s Centre on Bay and always welcomes new members. Check them out at www.saultquilts.com or on Facebook at Stitches from the Heart Quilt Guild (SSM, ON).
