Seminar offered to help local firms export to the U.S.

To help local firms sell their products and services to U.S. markets, the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation, Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce and Ontario Ministry of International Trade are hosting a one-day seminar on Mar. 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Quattro Hotel & Conference Centre.

The Exporting to the U.S. forum is targeted at local companies that are new to exporting as well as those that already export products and services. Attendees will learn best practices, new information on U.S. customs requirements, and insights on the future of the North American Free Trade Agreement.

The event, which includes breakfast and lunch, features speakers from seven different agencies, including U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Canadian Trade Commissioner Service, Export Development Canada, BDO Canada, FedNor, and the Ontario Ministry of International Trade.

“The United States is Canada’s number one trading partner, and being situated on the international border can give Sault Ste. Marie companies an advantage,” said John Febbraro, Manager of Industrial and Business Development for the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation. “Many more of our local companies should be looking at exporting as an opportunity to grow and expand into other markets.”

The forum will also feature a panel discussion of local exporting companies, including Evolution Deck, Tenaris Algoma Tubes, Arauco North America and SIS Manufacturing.

Attendees will hear first-hand about some of the challenges, growth and opportunities each business has experienced through exporting. Attendees will be able to ask questions during the panel discussion.

Marie Chamber of Commerce. “Exporting brings in new money from outside the local market and builds better local economies that are diversified and strong enough to weather tough times. Chamber of Commerce members can also access Chamber export programs such as the Early Stage Exporters or the Export Market Access, a Global Expansion Program.”
