The 6th Annual TOPS Christmas Cheer Toy Drive took place at The Roberta Bondar Building on Friday Dec. 6.
This year’s theme was “Sharing Holiday Memories Together”. The event provided the opportunity for provincial government workers to give back to their community. Hundreds of unwrapped toys, books and gently used items were donated to this festive cause.
“We are privileged to be a part of this annual event and this one showed how each one of us can positively change someone’s day”, said event committee member Tracey Hilderley, who emceed the event. She also praised the efforts of everyone that contributed, “We are so grateful to be able to assist our neighbours in the community on a yearly basis. We want to thank our partners at OLG for all of their amazing contributions to make this event such a success”.
Joining the celebration was The St. Mary’s College choir and band, who donated their time and talents, playing renditions of Santa Claus is Coming to Town and Joy to the World to the crowd.
Diane Marshall, Christmas Cheer Coordinator, thanked the crowd for their generosity. “We appreciate all of the hard work that goes into organizing an event such as this one. Families in the Sault Ste. Marie area will be waking up on Christmas morning with these wonderful items under their trees that you all have donated”.
Sault Ste. Marie Conservation Officers then took 3 truck loads full of toys to the Christmas Cheer location, which is in the old Sears location in the Station Mall.
