Competitors from around the world are expected to come to Sault Ste. Marie next summer for a new endurance event.

The SOO 200 will be Canada’s second 200-mile race, taking place between July 20 and 26.

Course details are expected in late December or early January, but competitors will head over the Canadian shield in the Algoma area, and along segments of the rugged Lake Superior coastline.

“A race like the 200-miler takes a lot of time to prepare, and we are working on permits and land use with the stakeholders in and around the Soo,” said Brian Gallant, director of Sinister Sports in a news release.

“We have to get it right on the first go, so we’ll keep everyone in suspense for now.”

With their expansion into Eastern Canada, the crew from Sinister Sports are excited to announce the launch Canada’s 2nd 200-mile race in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario from July 20th through 26th. The SOO 200 will take competitors over the Canadian shield in the Algoma area, and along segments of the rugged Lake Superior coastline. Sault Ste. Marie, also known as The Soo, is an up-and-coming mecca for adventurers, and a community with a welcoming spirit.

The 2nd new event, the Blue Bully Ultra, is a three-day stage race taking place at Blue Mountain Resort, Ontario from October 3rd through 5th. The race will feature options for individual entry into each of the days, or competitors can sign up for all three days, which consist of a shorter Friday run, an ultra on Saturday, and a 10k to half Marathon distance on Sunday. “Blue Mountain Resort offers all of the features for a perfect host site, with a friendly atmosphere and great amenities”, says Kevin Duriaux, who oversees new race development and location selection for Sinister Sports.

Duriaux adds that, “We have been talking about expanding into Eastern Canada for over a year now, and we are ready to make it happen.” Sinister Sports is known for celebrating life in the Rocky Mountains, and the creation of two events in Ontario is a distinct shift from their normal base. “We see so many opportunities,” says Brian Gallant, Director of Sinister Sports, “Once we fall in love with a place, we want to see others enjoying it the way we do, and that is not limited to Alberta and BC.”

The course details will be released in late December or early January. “A race like the 200-miler takes a lot of time to prepare, and we are working on permits and land use with the stakeholders in and around the Soo,” says Gallant, further adding, “we have to get it right on the first go, so we’ll keep everyone in suspense for now.”

This is a pivotal time for Sinister Sports, and their team is excited to bring the “Sinister Experience” to the Eastern Canada trail running scene. “These are not the only two events that we are working on, so expect more from us in the next two years,” says Duriaux.

Since 2002, Sinister Sports has remained true to its core value of creating the toughest, most compelling endurance events in Canada with the likes of Sinister 7 Ultra, Canadian Death Race and most recently, Canada’s only 200-mile race, The Divide 200.
