Sault Ste. Marie = Harley Heaven!

Okay, we concede that this little-remembered Harley Davidson Topper, produced from 1960 to 1965, wasn't exactly a high point in the venerable motorcycle maker's history.

Okay, we concede that this little-remembered Harley Davidson Topper, produced from 1960 to 1965, wasn't exactly a high point in the venerable motorcycle maker's history.

But now that we have your attention, we'd like you to know that about 1,000 members of the Ontario Harley Owners Group will be meeting at the Steelback Centre from tomorrow (Thursday) until Saturday.

Public events include Thursday demo rides (10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) at the Best Western Hotel on Great Northern Road; a Friday-night parade starting at 5:30 p.m.; and a noon Saturday appearance by the OPP Golden Helmets Precision Ride on Queen Street West behind the casino.

The following announcement was issued by the Harley Owners Group:

******************************* The 19th Ontario Provincial HOG Rally this year is being held in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Thursday August 2 to Saturday August 4, 2007, hosted by the Sault Ste. Marie chapter of the Harley Owners Group [HOG] and the Harley-Davidson retailer, The Shop in Lively, Ontario.

The Steelback Centre will be the hub of the rally with registration, vendors and closing ceremonies.

Most of the events are open to the public to watch but the nighttime activities are exclusively HOG events.

Thursday, the 2008 Harley-Davidson demo rides will be at the Best Western Hotel on Great Northern Road.

The parade on Friday night will commence at 5:30 p.m. after opening ceremonies.

The Show and Shine will take place Saturday morning at the Casino; the OPP Golden Helmets Precision Ride on Queen Street West, behind the Casino, and On and Off bike games in front of City Hall.

The parade route

Leave the Casino parking lot west on Queen Street to Carmen's Way.

Continue on Carmen’s Way to 2nd Line then east on 2nd Line to Great Northern Road.

Turn right on Great Northern Road and follow it back downtown to Queen Street, then west on Queen Street to Andrew Street (Wendy's restaurant), turn left on Andrew Street and continue to the riverfront past the Holiday Inn to Roberta Bondar Pavilion, on Foster Drive.

Thank-you to the City of Sault Ste Marie for opening their doors to over 1,000 H.O.G. enthusiasts so they can enjoy a taste of Northern hospitality.
