Seen here welcoming back Canadian visitors at the International Bridge are Sault Michigan Mayor Don Gerrie, Terry Talentino, Linda Hoath of the Sault Visitors and Convention Bureau, Denise Boston Talentino and Tony Haller Chamber of Commerce Director.

The U.S. is set to reopen its land border to non-essential travellers from Canada today after a more than a year-and-a-half closure.

While Canada reopened its land border to non-essential American travellers in August, the U.S. did not reciprocate until now.

Local leaders from Sault Michigan are anxious for friends and family to come over.

"Everybody is together again as businesses, visitors and family," said Linda Hoath, executive director of the Sault Area Convention and visitors bureau.

There are still some rules in place that Canadian travellers will have to follow.
