Residential waste collection
Residents may continue to use the Waate Management tags until February 1, 2013.
It is suggested that residents limit the number of garbage tags purchased from Waste Management to the amount that they anticipate uaing through February l, 2013.
Beginning February 4, 2013: City residents may request a refund for any unused Waste Management tags at the City Treasure's Office through Friday, March 1, 2013.
Anyone expecting to be out of town during this time period may contact the City office at (906) 632-5715 to make alternate refund arrangements - all refund requests must be submitted by March 1, 2013.
Beginning Monday, February 4, 2013, Smith Sanitation will assume responsibility for the city's residential waste collection.
Refuse Collection
Residents will have the option of purchasing a $1.60 tag for use on their own 32 gallon container or a $3.50 tag for use on a 65 gallon Smith Sanitation container.
Residents can acquire a 65 gallon container by calling Smith Sanitation at (906) 635-3380.
Collection routes will remain unchanged.
Recycling Collection
Residents will have the option of continuing to use their previously purchased 18 gallon W/M container, purchase a new Smith Sanitation 18 gallon container for $7, or acquire a 65 gallon Smith Sanitation container for a $20 deposit plus $2.25 per tag cost by calling Smith Sanitation at (905) 635-3380* Recycling collection dates will remain unchanged.
Smith Sanitation tags will ba sold in books of 10 and available January 1, 2013 at the following locations: Glen's Market, Super Value, Soo Co-op Credit Union, Chippewa County Credit Union, Central Savings Bank, Ba|dWin's Market, Soo Corner Stora, and NaviI|o's.
