A 36-year-old from the Sault is facing multiple charges, including stealing a vehicle, after a single-vehicle crash on Highway 17 yesterday.

Shortly after 7:30 p.m., officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police responded to a report of a vehicle in the median on Highway 17, west of Bar River Road.

Police say a minivan was travelling westbound when the driver crossed both lanes, entered the median, and was ejected from the vehicle when it rolled. The driver was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police arrested the driver at the hospital after determining that the vehicle had been stolen from Thessalon.

Lucas Torrance, 36, from Sault Ste. Marie was charged with:

  • theft under $5,000 of a motor vehicle
  • driving while under suspension
  • careless driving
  • driver-fail to properly wear seat belt

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Torrance is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
