A 36-year-old Sault man is facing multiple charges after allegedly speeding away from the OPP in a stolen pickup truck.

On Feb. 6, shortly after 11:30 a.m., officers from the OPP’s Sault Ste. Marie detachment were patrolling Highway 17 in Garden River when they spotted a westbound pickup “travelling at a high rate of speed.”

When officers attempted to pull over the vehicle inside city limits — at Highway 17B and Trunk Road — police say the truck “pulled over to let a passenger exit and fled the area immediately.”

Police later learned the pickup had been stolen from an address in the Sault.

Four days later, on Feb. 10, the suspect was located on Sweet Grass Street in Garden River and arrested by the Batchewana First Nation Police Service.

Tyler Ross is charged with:

  • Flight from peace officer
  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code (two counts)
  • Dangerous operation
  • Possession property obtained by crime under $5000
  • Fail to comply with probation order
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Speeding

The accused appeared in bail court yesterday in Sault Ste. Marie.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Ross is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
