A local beauty products manufacturer has launched its second annual period drive to help the needy in our community.

The goal is to collect 10,000 menstrual products, including unopened pads, tampons, liners, and other menstrual products.

Last year, OC Beauty and its partners received almost 6,000 products from the community. This year, with the support of 15 local businesses and organizations, they aim to surpass that number.

From Feb. 8 to March 8, OC Beauty and other local businesses will be accepting unopened menstrual products to support individuals experiencing homelessness and period poverty, the drive's organizer said in a news release.

"Homelessness and financial hardship can be tough, and having access to menstrual products is a basic necessity that can make a huge difference," said Shayna Boucher, the owner of OC Beauty.

"We often overlook the cost and struggle that some people go through. Last year was a fantastic year, but it opened our eyes to the scale of the issue."

The initiative will benefit three local organizations: St. Vincent Place, SOYA (Save Our Young Adults from Drug Abuse), and Northland Adult Learning Center.

"Menstrual hygiene is a basic right, and we should all work together to ensure that everyone has access to the products they need," Boucher added.

"We're not just about achieving targets this year, but also about creating a positive change and inspiring people.

"Everyone deserves access to period products and we're doing our bit to make it happen."

Community members are invited to donate unopened pads, tampons, liners, and other menstrual hygiene products at the following local businesses during operating hours until March 8:

  • Aline Wellness
  • Amore For Your Pleasure
  • Due North Cannabis (All Three Locations)
  • George Leach Centre
