Additional daycare space supports families in Sault Ste. Marie
Looking for safe, inclusive and affordable childcare in Sault Ste. Marie?
The Child and Family Centre at Sault College is pleased to announce that they are now accepting registrations for its newest daycare facility located on the Sault College campus.
The new site, operated by the College’s well-trained and dedicated staff, is a welcomed addition to the current daycare centre located at 550 Northern Avenue (Prince Charles Public School).
The expansion, made possible by the District of Sault Ste. Marie Social Services Administration Board, will allow the daycare to facilitate space for up to 62 children aged 18 months to 4 years old.
“The Sault College Child and Family Centre provides a welcoming, respectful and stimulating child care environment that promotes the early education and care of young children. Our programs are designed to nurture a strong development of their potential, interests and creativity,” says Nancy Leindecker, Manager of the Child and Family Centre.
“We are excited about the opportunities that the new space will provide to not only Sault College students and their families but the greater Sault Ste. Marie community, as well.”
The Centre, which is open to everyone, operates from September to the end of June.
The fee to attend is $36 per child per day with subsidized spaces available for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal families.
The Child and Family Centre adheres to the philosophy that children learn best through play and that cooperation rather than competitiveness should be encouraged.
The children are supported and guided by qualified staff through experiences developed to enhance and enrich decision making skills, self-esteem, self-confidence, a sense of responsibility, good citizenship and respect for others.
The program is designed around the principles of developmentally appropriate practices.
Nature-based experiences, outdoor play and components of Aboriginal culture are embedded within the curriculum.
“Our Child and Family Centre promotes an inclusive, quality learning experience through the development of activities that allow for optimal participation and learning,” adds Leindecker.
In addition to providing quality daycare programs, the Child and Family Centre at Sault College has now extended its services to before and after school care of school-age children, offering three such programs in partnership with the Huron – Superior Catholic District School Board.
St. Francis, St. Paul and Our Lady of Lourdes elementary schools are locations that offer students fun, educational programming run by qualified and trained staff.
“We’ve been very pleased with the [after-school] program ever since we moved our son to St. Paul School three years ago,” notes Chris Cameron, who is a parent of a child in the program. “It’s one of the reasons we moved him to that school,” he adds.
If you wish to enrol your child or children in the Child and Family Centre at Sault College or the before and after school care programs, parents are required to register at www.saultdaycare.ca.
