Sault College officials have cancelled classes and closed all buildings today after this afternoon's heavy rain damaged ceilings in at least two parts of the sprawling facility.

College spokesperson Nadine Robinson described the evacuation as precautionary and tells SooToday.com that tonight's continuing education classes are cancelled.

No one was hurt, Robinson said.

One area that's been roped off because of water damage is the athletics office.

SooToday.com's Carol Martin got into that part of the school this afternoon and reports that there's heavy water damage there.

She also visited Sault College's heath centre on the lower level, where ceiling tiles have fallen into teaching areas.

College staff quickly escorted students and staff from all campus buildings.

They're currently mopping up and evaluating the damage.

Robinson said it's hoped the school can re-open tomorrow.

SooToday.com will be standing by tonight and tomorrow to post any additional information received from Sault College.
