New owners say plans are in the works for the former restaurant on McNabb Street, which has been vacant since 2015.

A sale has been finalized for a long-vacant McNabb Street building that has been home to a number of restaurants over the years, before it was shuttered in 2015.

According to publicly available documents, the former Aurora’s restaurant at 384 McNabb St. recently sold to a Sault Ste. Marie-based numbered company for $1.2 million.

The building has been owned by Ben Pino since 2003, when he picked it up in a power of sale for $600,000.

Reached by telephone on Thursday, Pino declined an opportunity to comment for this article.

Although sold signs appeared on the property weeks earlier, the final sale of the property didn't close until March 8. Those sold signs have since been removed from in front of the building but for now the plywood on the windows has remained.

A listing for the property states the building was constructed in 1980, is just over 5,800 square feet in size and situated on 1.34 acres of land. It features an industrial kitchen, a banquet room, outdoor patio and parking.

The building is located at the intersection of McNabb and Allard streets and directly adjacent to the Food Basics plaza.

SooToday reached out one of the new owners, who said plans are being made for the building but did not offer any details.

Over the years the McNabb Street building has been home to Aurora’s, Amici’s and Casa Mia, but has been vacant for years.

The most recent restaurant to operate out of the location was Chicago Cookshop, which closed its doors in April of 2015.
