Remembrance Day ceremony will be held this morning at GFL Memorial Gardens

Many facilities and services will be closed, although all events scheduled at city arenas will go ahead as planned

The 106th National Remembrance Day Ceremony will be held at the GFL Memorial Gardens on Monday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. 

A number of City of Sault Ste. Marie facilities and services will be unavailable on Nov. 11 in observance of Remembrance Day.

City facilities and services that are closed on Monday include: 

  • Bay Street Active Living Centre and the Northern Community Centre Active 55+ and community programming space
  • Cemetery office
  • City Landfill and Household Hazardous Waste Depot
  • Ermatinger Clergue National Historic Site
  • GFL Memorial Gardens office and Box Office
  • Public Libraries – James L. McIntyre Centennial and North Branch
  • Public Works office. For 24-hour emergency service, call 705-759-5201
  • Ronald A. Irwin Civic Centre
  • Sault Transit main office

Garbage and recycling collection will be a day late throughout the week with no collection happening on Monday.

Weather permitting, curbside collection for leaf and yard waste has been extended for two weeks with the final week for Collection A being Nov. 12-16 and Nov. 18-22 for Collection B.

City facilities that will be operating on Monday include:

  • John Rhodes Community Centre Pool is open for all regular programming, including lessons and swims
  • All arenas (GFL Memorial Gardens, John Rhodes Community Centre Arena and the Northern Community Centre) and indoor turf will be open for scheduled events.
  • GFL Memorial Gardens box office is open
  • Regular transit and Parabus will operate as usual. At 11 a.m., City buses will pull over to observe one minute of silence
