Sault-based Rainone Services is expected to land a $124,500 city contract next week to tear down a commercial building at 628 Second Line West.

Rainone was low bidder on the project, winning the job over Avery Construction Ltd. of Sault Ste. Marie ($133,126) and Green Infrastructure Partners Inc. of Markham, Ont. ($127,000).

The city bought the building last fall for $700,000.

It was the home of Paw'n Pet Food & Grooming, and BST Pawnbrokers.

Sault Ste. Marie Housing Corp. is building a $5.1-million, 11-unit affordable housing project nearby at 664 Second Line West.

Completion date for that project is the end of April 2025.

The city acquired 628 Second Line West as part of a planned Goulais Avenue reconfiguration project aimed at addressing long lineups of vehicles at the Goulais/Second Line intersection.

The original idea was to add either a right-turn lane or a roundabout at that corner.

City councillors have so far not approved a design concept for the intersection.

Monday's city council meeting will be live-streamed on SooToday starting at 5 p.m.
