On Wednesday, Dec. 18, Sault MP Carmen Provenzano presented 28 Sault-area residents with the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal.

The commemorative medal was created to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of Her Majesty's reign as Queen of Canada.

The medals are being presented to approximately 46,000 Canadians in recognition of significant achievements or distinguished service to their fellow citizens, their community or Canada.

To ensure that the awarding of the medals was inclusive and wide-ranging, the Federal Government identified a series of partners to select recipients from their community or their organization.

Partners include some 200 national and provincial organizations including the Canadian Red Cross, The Canadian Forces, Members of Parliament, Senators, Territorial Commissioners and the Canadian Cancer Society.
