Royal Canadian Legion Branch 25 announced Thursday its 2020 Poppy Campaign has raised $83,000 to date.

“We would like to pass on to the citizens of Sault Ste. Marie our sincere appreciation for their generosity and kindness,” Branch 25 officials stated in a news release.

“Like so many organizations, the Legion is under pressure to meet the needs of our clients and members due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We were cautiously optimistic about meeting our target given the COVID-19 restrictions along with limited poppy taggers.”

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 25’s 2019 Poppy Campaign raised approximately $95,000 in poppy and wreath sales.

“As always, we will continue to accept donations directly for the poppy fund throughout the year. We are confident that we will be able to meet our commitments to provide services and support to Veterans and their families while improving health services and supporting youth education,” Legion officials wrote.

The annual Poppy Campaign is the Royal Canadian Legion’s largest fundraising effort of the year, both locally and nationwide, with all proceeds directly supporting Canadian veterans, their families, health and education.

“The committee wishes to acknowledge the generosity of the community and convey our admiration for the dedication of our volunteers. A huge shout out goes to the businesses and individual donors who made cash donations or purchased wreaths. They embraced our amended wreath laying option at the Legion building and contributed to the overall success of the campaign,” the release stated.
