PHOTOS: Spot that fighter jet over the Sault today? A local boy was in the cockpit

Saturday's aerial performance by the Snowbirds will include a high-speed pass from a CF-18 fighter jet flown by the Sault's very own Major Dion Marson — call sign 'Gottem'

Yesterday it was the Snowbirds, today it was a CF-18 Hornet — with a local pilot in the cockpit.

The Snowbirds, the Canadian military's renowned air demonstration team, will be putting on a special show Saturday afternoon as part of Bushplane Days, which is why the team squeezed in some practice over the city on Thursday.

But the aerial performance will also include a special guest: Sault Ste. Marie’s very own Major Dion Marson — call sign "Gottem" — who will roar through the skies for a high-speed pass in a CF-18 fighter jet.

"This heart-pounding spectacle will kick off the display as Major Marson showcases the sheer power and precision of Canada’s iconic fighter aircraft," says a news release issued by the city.

On Friday morning, the jet was spotted over the downtown core, triggering plenty of attention — and chatter on social media.
