A bustling crowd ushered in the official start of summer by taking in a pow wow held at the Sault Ste. Marie Canal National Historic Site Wednesday afternoon during the National Anishinaabe Day event.
Hosted by Batchewana First Nation, the one-day event is held in recognition of National Indigenous Peoples Day, which is recognized by Indigenous communities and groups across Canada on June 21 each year.
This year's festivities at the canal site include family activities, vendors, a lunch feast and live entertainment.
The annual fireworks show has been cancelled in light of an ongoing fire ban.
