NEWS RELEASE
************************* At approximately 10 p.m. last night City Police attended at a local hotel and arrested a 30-year-old male.
The accused Paul Jeffrey Whalen, age 30 of no fixed address, was arrested for two warrants - dating to March 2007 and May 2007.
The March warrant was for breach of probation.
The May warrant was for the offences of point a firearm, assault with a weapon and use of a firearm while committing an offence.
The accused was further charged with one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, one count of unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, one count of possession of a firearm contrary to order, one count of dangerous driving, one count of flight from police and one count of possession of a substance.
It is alleged that on July 12 at approximately 3:40 a.m. the accused Paul Whalen was observed driving a motor vehicle in the area of Summit Avenue.
When police attempted to stop the vehicle the accused [allegedly] drove in a dangerous manner and fled from police.
The vehicle was eventually located on Summit Avenue and one female occupant was arrested.
The accused Whalen had fled on foot from the scene.
At the time of the offence police located a quantity of cocaine, a semi-automatic handgun and several large knives.
