Update:
On June 3, 2022, at 3:30 p.m., members from Sault Ste Marie (SSM) OPP, SSM Crime Unit, OPP Emergency Response Team, North East OPP Canine Unit, Sault Ste Police Service and Batchewana Police Service arrested 37 year-old Eric Mearow behind a residence on Superior Street, Fisher Township.

Eric Mearow was turned over to Sault Ste Marie Police Service to face multiple charges.

A man wanted for attempted murder is still on the run after the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a potential sighting Thursday night.

Eric Mearow, 37, is wanted in connection with a shooting last weekend on Beverley Street.

Mearow is well-known to local police. He was one of three men who pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the high-profile stabbing death of Wesley Hallam at a drug-fuelled house party in January 2011.

According to a news release issued today, the OPP responded Thursday to a potential sighting of Mearow in Batchawana Bay.

Police say they, along with the OPP's Emergency Response Team (ERT), Northeast (Sault Ste Marie) Canine Unit, North East Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team (TIME), Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), Sault Ste Marie OPP Crime Unit Aviation Services OPP Helicopter and the Batchawana First Nation Police Service searched a wooded area behind a residence on Superior Street for several hours. 

Mearow wasn't located and police resources cleared the area at approximately 11:30 p.m.

There is no risk to public safety at this time, the release states.

FISHER TOWNSHIP— On June 2, 2022, shortly after 8:00 p.m., members from the Sault Ste Marie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the OPP's Emergency Response Team (ERT), Northeast (Sault Ste Marie) Canine Unit, North East Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team (TIME), Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), Sault Ste Marie OPP Crime Unit Aviation Services OPP Helicopter and the Batchewana First Nation Police Service responded to a possible sighting of 37-year-old Eric MEAROW who is wanted for Attempt Murder related to a May 29, 2022, incident that occurred in the City of Sault Ste Marie.

Police searched a wooded area behind a residence on Superior Street within the Batchawana Bay area for several hours. The wanted person was not located and police resources cleared the area at approximately 11:30 p.m.

Should Eric MEAROW be observed, do not approach - contact police immediately via 911. Any person with information regarding this investigation should immediately contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 or their nearest police authority.
