Oooo, shiny! (21 photos)

It was the perfect day to show off shiny metal, and area car enthusiasts used the opportunity to take their finely tuned machines to the annual Prouse Chevrolet Show and Shine Car Show Saturday afternoon.

Approximately 100 Algoma region show entries, including vintage and antique cars, late model vehicles, and motorcycles, were on display in the Prouse parking lot from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Peter Schwindt and his rebuilt 1957 Austin Healey roadster caught SooToday.com's eye almost  immediately.

A bit of a collector, Schwindt has seven British-made classic cars, four of which are in show condition.

"I had a Healey when I was 19," Schwindt told us. "That's where my love for them comes from."

"It's just a seat-of-the-pants feeling that an open sports car can give you," he explained. "The horsepower, maneuverability, and stick-to-itiveness through roads and corners… the Healey is like a comfortable old truck to me."

This third annual car event included a number of information booths and family activities, as well as a charitable silent auction table.

For the second year in a row, proceeds from the Prouse Chevrolet Show and Shine Car Show will go to support the work of the Alzheimer's Society of Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma.

"It's been a pleasure to work with a community oriented group like Prouse Motors," said Terry Caporossi, executive director of the Alzheimer's Society of Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma. "Every dollar that we raise stays right here in the community to provide programs and services."
