Ontario reports 870 new COVID cases Thursday

Today's report also includes 1,563 recoveries and 10 deaths

Public Health Ontario has reported 870 new COVID-19 cases in its latest report (June 3).

Today's update also includes 1,563 new recoveries and 10 deaths. 

The June 2 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

  • 729 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, up from 708 yesterday.
  • There are 546 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (down from 576 yesterday) and 370 COVID patients on ventilators (down from 399 reported yesterday).
  • The province reported 34,277 tests were processed yesterday.
  • Of the new cases reported today, 225 are from Toronto, 167 cases are from Peel and 49 are in the Porcupine Health Unit region, which covers Timmins and area.
  • Today's cases include 203 individuals aged 19 and under, 314 people between 20 and 39 years old, 235 people between 40 and 59 years old, 92 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 23 people aged 80 and over.

Vaccines

  • There were 150,884 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered yesterday.
  • 9,493,005 doses of vaccine have been administered.
  • In total, 834,981 people have been fully vaccinated.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 533,761 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 514,999 recoveries and 8,801 deaths.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,590.9 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate is 48.9 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 52.3 per cent from the prior seven-day period. 

Northern Ontario

In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:

  • Algoma Public Health: 394 cases, weekly rate of  5.2 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 393 cases. There are six known active cases. 
  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 454 cases, weekly rate of 6.9 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 456 cases. There are 17 known active cases. 
  • Porcupine Health Unit: 1,447 cases, weekly rate of 257.7 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,442 cases. There are 318 known active cases.
  • Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 2,077 cases, weekly rate of 9.5 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,098 cases. There are 32 known active cases. 
  • Timiskaming Health Unit: 205 cases, weekly rate of 0 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 206 cases. There are no known active cases.
  • Northwestern Health Unit: 1,064 cases, weekly rate of 12.5 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,063 cases. There are six known active cases.
  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 3,250 cases, weekly rate of 35.3 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 3,241 cases. There are 52known active cases. 

The data from Northern Ontario health units is based on what was available at 10:30 a.m. today.
