Ontario reports 788 new COVID cases Monday

The latest updates noted 453 recoveries and two new deaths

Public Health Ontario reported 788 new COVID cases today.

The latest updates noted 453 recoveries and two new deaths. One other death that occurred more than a month ago was added to the cumulative total number of deaths. 

The Nov. 29 updates provided by the province's public health agency and the ministry of health also reported the following data:

  • 6,816 active cases, up from 6,418 reported yesterday. 
  • 145 people are hospitalized with COVID-19, but this number is incomplete as more than 10 per cent of hospitals don't report bed census data on weekends.
  • There are 131 COVID-positive patients in the ICU plus another 17 patients no longer testing positive for COVID-19.
  • There are 79 COVID-positive patients on ventilators and another 10 patients on ventilators no longer testing positive for COVID. 
  • 11,254,056 Ontarians (about 75 per cent of the total population) have been fully vaccinated. 89 per cent of eligible Ontarians have at least one dose of vaccine.
  • Today's new cases include 412 unvaccinated, 27 partially vaccinated, and 315 fully vaccinated people. 34 cases were reported with the vaccination status unknown.  
  • The province does not update the vaccination status of hospitalized COVID patients on Sunday or Monday.
  • The seven-day average incidence rate by vaccination status is 12.5 cases per 100,000 unvaccinated people, 5.4 cases per 100,000 partially vaccinated people, and 2.9 cases per 100,000 fully vaccinated people.
  • The province reported 26,016 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a 3.5 per cent positivity rate.
  • Of the new cases reported today, 106 are from Toronto, 49 are from Peel, 80 are from Simcoe-Muskoka, and 48 are from York Region.
  • Today's new cases include 38 newborns to four-year-olds, 159 kids ages five to 11, 65 youth between 12 and 19 years old, 217 people between 20 and 39 years old, 180 people between 40 and 59 years old, 111 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 18 people over 79 years old.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 617,803 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 600,990 recoveries and 9,997 deaths.

Since the start of the pandemic, 31,288 people have been hospitalized with COVID and 6,179 of them were in intensive care units.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 4,193 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate last week was 34 cases per 100,000 people, which is up by 13 per cent compared to the week of Nov. 13.

Northern Ontario
In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:
    •    Algoma Public Health: Weekly rate of 163.4 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1088 cases. There are 330 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 92 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 88 per cent have both doses.
    •    North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: The health unit has reported 912 cases. There are 18 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 88 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 84.4 per cent have both doses.
    •    Porcupine Health Unit: The health unit has reported 2,274 cases. There are 13 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 91 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 86 per cent have both doses.
    •    Public Health Sudbury and Districts: The health unit has reported 3,719 cases. There are 288 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 92 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 89 per cent have both doses.
    •    Timiskaming Health Unit: The health unit has reported 383 cases. There are 83 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 89 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 86 per cent have both doses.
    •    Northwestern Health Unit: The health unit has reported 1,230 cases. There are 20 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 91 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 86 per cent have both doses.
    •    Thunder Bay District Health Unit: The health unit has reported 3,577 cases. There are 93 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 95 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 91 per cent have both doses.
