Public Health Ontario reported 587 new COVID cases today.
The latest updates noted 586 recoveries and six deaths that have occurred in the last month.
One death previously reported has now been removed from the cumulative total.
The Oct. 7 updates provided by the province's public health agency and the ministry of health also reported the following data:
- Included in the new cases reported today are 349 unvaccinated cases, 27 partially vaccinated cases, and 164 fully vaccinated cases. There were 47 cases where the person's vaccination status was unknown (missing health card information).
- 4,575 active, lab-confirmed cases, down from 4,579 yesterday.
- 279 people are hospitalized with COVID-19.
- Hospitalized cases (excluding ICU) include 96 unvaccinated people,12 partially vaccinated people, and 50 fully vaccinated people.
- There are 125 COVID-positive patients in the ICU plus another 24 patients no longer testing positive for COVID-19.
- ICU cases include 75 unvaccinated cases, 10 partially vaccinated cases, and 15 fully vaccinated people.
- There are 81 COVID-positive patients on ventilators and another 21 patients on ventilators no longer testing positive for COVID.
- 10,665,079 Ontarians (about 72 per cent of the total population) have been fully vaccinated and another 644,035 (four per cent of Ontario population) have a single dose of COVID vaccine. 87 per cent of eligible Ontarians have at least one dose of vaccine.
- The seven-day average incidence rate by vaccination status is nine cases per 100,000 unvaccinated people, 4.4 cases per 100,000 partially vaccinated people, and 1.5 cases per 100,000 fully vaccinated people.
- The province reported 37,057 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a 1.7 per cent positivity rate.
- Of the new cases reported today, 119 are from Toronto, 55 are from Peel, 22 are from Simcoe-Muskoka, and 42 are from York Region.
- Today's new cases include 119 individuals under 12 years old, 58 youth between 12 and 19 years old, 196 people between 20 and 39 years old, 129 people between 40 and 59 years old, 77 people between 60 and 79 years old, and nine people over 79 years old.
Public Health Ontario has confirmed 590,104 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 575,753 recoveries and 9,776 deaths.
Since the start of the pandemic, 30,052 people have been hospitalized with COVID and 5,875 of them were in intensive care units.
The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 4,005 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.
Ontario's average weekly incidence rate last week was 27.4 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 3.5 per cent compared to the week of Sept. 21-27.

Northern Ontario
In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:
- Algoma Public Health: 476 cases, weekly rate of 5.9 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 477 cases. There are 9 known active cases, and one active case in a non-Algoma resident who is temporarily in the region.
- North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 774 cases, weekly rate of 15.5 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 775 cases. There are 28 known active cases.
- Porcupine Health Unit: 2,209 cases, weekly rate of 3.5 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,211 cases. There is one known active cases. The health unit does not report hospitalizations in its numbers.
- Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 2,444 cases, weekly rate of 12.7 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,476 cases. There are 50 known active cases.
- Timiskaming Health Unit: 225 cases, weekly rate of 8.9 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 231 cases. There are 12 known active cases.
- Northwestern Health Unit: 1,183 cases, weekly rate of 25.9 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,181 cases. There are 15 known active cases.
- Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 3,395 cases, weekly rate of 1.9 cases per 100,000 people. There is one known active case.
